Lewis Tremblay

....lifelong resident of Tewksbury, 82

TEWKSBURY - Lewis Tremblay, a former Town Treasurer, businessman, and member of manyfraternal organizations, died Monday, Mar. 15, after a long period of declining health. He was thehusband of Theresa R. (Dupre) Tremblay, with whom he would have celebrated a 55th weddinganniversary on May 31st.

He was born in Lowell, Aug. 4, 1921, a son of the late Arthur and Alma (Harrison) Tremblay. Hewas a lifelong town resident who attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School in Lowelland graduated Tewksbury High School, with the Class of 1939.

Upon graduation from H.S., he joined the Coast Guard and served at Salem Air Station andaboard the USCG Tahoe out of New Bedford , MA. He was sent to Radio School at FortTrumbull in New London, Ct. He was stationed on the USCG Ingham which took him toPortugal for six months and then convoy duty in Greenland, Iceland and Ireland. He was trainedat MIT and then helped man the first LORAN station in Greenland for 18 months. He waspromoted to chief radio technician in August of 1943. He returned stateside to the Grotontraining station as an instructor until his honorable discharge in 1945.

Returning to Tewksbury, he went into business with his father and brother at the TremblayPackage Store and P & L Laundromat. Later he formed the Tremblay Ice Vending Company inTewksbury.

In 1965 he was elected Assessor for the Town of Tewksbury. He became the 26th in the state toattain the title of Certified Mass Assessor in 1972. He served as vice president of the MiddlesexCounty Assessors Association. In 1979 he was elected Town Treasurer/Tax Collector. Heretired in 1987 and was recognized for 24 years of outstanding service to the Town ofTewksbury.

Throughout his life he remained active in civic and fraternal organizations. He served as the firstvice president of the Massachusetts Package Store Association. Over the years, he served aspresident of the Rotary Club of Tewksbury, was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Lowell Lodge of Elks, the Fr. Coppen’s Council, Knights of Columbus in Tewksbury and theLongmeadow Golf Club. He was also an incorporator of the Tewksbury Veterans Association. Most recently, he served as President of the Village of Loon Mountain Time Share Association inLincoln, N.H., where he was an active board member until the time of his death.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters and their spouses, Denise and her husband PaulLamoureux of Assonet, MA, Celeste Campbell of Chelmsford, Michele and her husband FrankMarino of Tewksbury, Anne and her husband John Moriarty of Tyngsboro; fourteengrandchildren, Monique and her husband David Kobasa, Michael, Brian and David Lamoureux,Brianne, Brooke, and Brett Campbell, Justin, Nicole, Christine and Neil Marino, Tom, Kasie andKara Moriarty; one sister and brother-in-law, Marguerite and Jim King of Goffstown, NH; abrother-in-law, Gerard Dupre of Tewksbury; a sister-in-law, Beverly Tremblay of Nashua, NH;and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters, Rita Quinn and Martha Keville; and brother, Paul Tremblay.

His Funeral Mass was celebratedFriday, Mar. 19, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial with U.S.C.G. Honors was at TewksburyCemetery.
