Obituary

FRANKLIN—Retired Sgt. Det. Francis L. “Buddy” Evans, Boston Police Dept. 68, of Franklin, died Tuesday December 6, 2011 at Milford Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was the husband of Linda M. (Donahue) Evans.
Born January 12, 1943 in Boston a son of the late Francis L. & Claire H. (Tracy) Evans, he had been a resident of Franklin since 1992 and was a former longtime resident of Brockton.
Francis was raised and educated in Dorchester, where he was a 1961 graduate of Dorchester High School and was also a 1968 graduate of the Boston Police Academy. He had a long and distinguished career for the Boston Police; he was assigned to District 2 Roxbury in his early career and was also the Community Police Officer for Hyde Park. He retired in 2006 after 38 years of service.
He enjoyed time spent with his family and grandchildren, classic cars, and NASCAR. Francis was one of the members of the Boston Police Honor Guard for Pope John Paul II when he visited in 1979.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Boston Police Detective's Benevolent Society, and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Franklin.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by 2 sons; David T. Evans and his wife Susan of New Jersey, James J. Evans of Franklin, a daughter Tracy A. Pitts and her husband Michael of Lakeville, a brother William Evans of New Hampshire, a sister Grace Sheils of Walpole. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Peter W. Evans who died in 1986 and the brother of the late Barbara Houston.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday Dec. 9th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. at 10AM.
Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton.
Calling hours are Thursday from 4-8PM.
