Gladys Merritt Wray, 88, of Tifton died Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Stephen Webb will officiate with private family services and burial to be held at a later date at Tired Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Saturday, December 10, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Wray was born on August 31, 1923 in Grady County and was the daughter of Lucas Oscar Merritt and Lillie Pearl Vickers Merritt, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Reggie Wray; and four brothers. She was retired from the Bank of the Southwest in Houston, Texas and attended the First United Methodist Church in Tifton. She was a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary of Tift Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Wray is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Melvin Merrill of Tifton; two sisters-in-law, Anice Merritt of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Jenelle Merritt of Hixson, Tennessee; two grandsons and their wives, Chris and Jackie Merrill and Mark and Shelley Merrill; and five great-grandchildren, Chase Merrill, Brandon Merrill, Ann Marie Merrill, Austin Merrill and Savannah Merrill.
