Leah Ann (Gay) Kane passed away Monday, November 28th 2011 at the age of 37 in Santa Cruz, CA after a brief fight with illness. She was born to Anna Marie (Lynch and John Gay of Taunton, MA on June 22, 1974. Leah graduated from Taunton High School in 1992 with honors and continued her education at the University if Maine, Orono where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and spent a semester abroad in Ireland. Leah was a gifted writer and musician and often wrote beautiful poetry and short stories. She began to develop and share her musical talents in high school by playing the flute and tuba, and continued to explore her love of music later in life with the piano and guitar. Active in the drama program she was a star performer in many musical productions. Leah’s artistic gifts were a symbol of her creativity and sense of adventure. In 1998, she created her own Web and graphic design Company, WitchyWeb Design where she helped small to medium sized companies expand their business to the web. Leah followed her dream to see the world by moving to Amsterdam in 1999, where she spent two years doing graphic and web design to help launch a Dutch start-up company. While there, Leah traveled Europe experiencing her love for the arts, different cultures, and culinary pleasures. She returned to the United States in 2001 and shortly thereafter combined her eye for design and love for cuisine and opened a restaurant in Bar Harbor, ME. After successfully running the restaurant for two years, Leah decided to leave the business and the harsh winters of Maine and move to sunny California. Leah quickly developed several business relationships for her WitchyWeb Design business and shortly after arriving in California joined Media Tile, a digital signage startup company, located in Scotts Valley, CA. Leah designed their website and was an intregal part of their marketing and graphic design team. In 2006 Leah met the love of her life, George. After a two year courtship they married in the beautiful vineyards of Healdsburg, CA. Leah is survived by her husband George Kane and cat Oliver of Santa Cruz, CA; her parents Ann and John Gay of Taunton, MA; her grandparents Anna and Edward Lynch of Taunton, MA; her niece Ashlyn, sister in law Donna, and brother John Gay of Surprise, AZ; mother-in-law Bonnie Kane of Rocky Mount, NC; father-in-law Harry Kane and mother-in-law Joy Kane of Santa Rosa, CA; aunts and uncles Terry and Larry Moniz of Raynham, MA, Stanley Gay of Taunton, MA, and Joan and Bob Brindle of Orlando, FL; great aunt Mary (Gay) Iwanicki of Taunton, MA; cousins Jennifer Moniz Carpenter of Plymouth, MA, Matthew Moniz of Providence, RI, Scott Brindle of Orlando, FL, Lynn Croteau of Orlando, FL, and Karen Rounds, of Sandwich, MA. Leah shared her love and spirit with all around her through the arts; followed her dreams and passion with eternal optimism; and touched our hearts in life, love, and friendship. A celebration of life service will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Friday, December 16th at 11:30am. Visiting hours will be thirty minutes prior to the service.
