Obituary

Martha H. (Hiller) Lorraine of Mattapoisett died on December 4, 2011 at Sippican Healthcare Center at the age of 102. She was the widow of Jack F. Lorraine and the daughter of the late Charles and Helen Hiller, who resided in Flushing, NY and Marion.
Martha lived in Flushing, NY and went to New York schools where she, in her senior year, studied design and advertising. She was a member of the Flushing Quaker Meeting. In 1925, the family moved to Marion and in 1930, she worked in the advertising department of Cherry & Co. until 1935 when she married Jack Lorraine of Lorraine’s Coffee and moved to Fairhaven. Her husband died in 1972. She moved to Mattapoisett in 1985. There she was a frequent participant in Mattapoisett Senior Center activities. She enjoyed knitting, playing Scrabble and Bingo. In spring of 2008, she moved to the Sippican Healthcare Center. She was a Member Emeritae of the Unitarian Memorial Church of Fairhaven.
She is survived by a daughter, Beth L. Kelley of Mattapoisett; two sons, Frederick G. Lorraine of Fairhaven and Jack R. Lorraine of Hampton, VA; two step-daughters, Lillian L. Yonally of Colonie, NY and Dorothy L. Gregory of Canada.
She was the mother of the late Gay L. Burgiel of Califon, NJ who died on March 21, 2004.
