Opal Spires Young, 65, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, March 15, 2004, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Rev. Robert Watson and Rev. Larry Graham officiating. Interment will follow in Big Creek Cemetery, Irwin County. Remains will lie in state at 309 Hudson Rd., Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Young was born March 31, 1938, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Clarence Spires and Lillie Cook Farrow. She lived in the community most of her life and lived in Birmingham, Alabama for eighteen years where she was a former bookkeeper for Weblow Corporation and a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge. Mrs. Young was a former hairdresser at Louise’s Beauty Shop in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Young is survived by her son and daughter: C.L. “Pedro” Young and Diane Sims, both of Fitzgerald; five grandchildren: Deedee Stone, Kristy Reynolds, Kasey Graham, Carie Lynn Young and Philip Young; four great grandchildren: Krista Young, Little Philip Young, Kaylea Stone and Chance Reynolds; one brother: Harrell Spires, St. Mary’s, GA; three sisters: June Mincey, Plant City, FL, Elizabeth Grantham, Douglas and Tim Lariesa Gray, Fitzgerald. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Talmadge Young.
