Austin “Sandy” Ford, of Kingston, died December 1, 2011 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Sandy was born in Quincy in 1943 where he grew up and lived in his family home until 2004. Sandy worked in the construction industry all of his life. His work brought him great satisfaction and many lifelong friends from his years with Vappi Construction , Sienna Construction and others. He took pleasure in driving through the Boston area and recognizing the projects he worked on for years including the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Wentworth Institute of Technology. He was a talented woodworker and meticulous engineer and took great care with everything he did in life. Sandy’s woodworking shop in his basement was the envy of most every visitor to his home.
His attention to detail and lifelong fascination with trains led him to his retirement pastime of building a model train railway, a hobby he enjoyed with his childhood friend Bill Herman.
In recent years, Sandy served as a board member of the Arbor Hills Condo Association.
Sandy was most happy surrounded by his family and was extremely proud of his four beautiful grandchildren.
Sandy is survived by his wife and lifelong love Jane Bunyon Ford of Kingston. He was the loving father of Juli Ford Alhadeff and her husband Rod Alhadeff of Plymouth and Chris Ford and his wife Liz Stella-Ford of Plymouth. Cherished Grampy of Noah and Miles Ford of Plymouth and Alexa and Nicholas Alhadeff of Plymouth. Sandy is also survived by his beloved nieces Colleen Maloney and Kerry Maloney, his beloved nephew Sean Maloney, and their spouses and children.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday, December 5, from 4 to 8 PM in the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston. His funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 6 at 11:00 AM at Saint Joseph’s Church, 272 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston.
Interment will be private.
