Obituary

Worcester – Roland “Joe” Richard, 76, of Worcester, died on Monday, November 28, 2011 surrounded by his family in his home after an illness.

His wife of 33 years, Dorothy S. (Daley) Richard died in 2004. Mr. Richard is survived by his children Jo Richard of Charlton, Leonard Richard of Charlton, Lisa Moen of Worcester, Daniel Richard of Cookeville, TN, Susan Evans of Southbridge, Sandra Cournoyer of Webster, Darlene Whitney of Worcester and Edward Richard of Grafton; two brothers Donald “Moe” Richard of Douglas and Norman Richard of Florida; two sisters, Theresa Bernard of Enfield, CT and Claire Messier of Charlton; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces and his beloved dog Cuddles.

He was born in Worcester, son of the late George and Irene (Messier) Richard and is predeceased by two brothers, Ernest and Paul Richard and two sisters, Yvette Lloyd and Rita Manseau.

Joe worked for the City of Worcester Department of Public Works as an auto mechanic for over 20 years and retired in 1998. He previously worked at the Jenkins Shell on the corner of Southbridge Street and Malvern Road. Mr. Richard owned an operated Richard’s Plowing Service for over 30 years and he also worked as a short order cook at the Y-D Diner in the 1950’s.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and going to the Yogi Bear Campground in Sturbridge. Joe was an avid card player and liked to play bingo as well. The family of Mr. Richard, would like to extend a special thank you to their father’s cancer Nurse, Yen and to the staff of the Saint Vincent Hospital Oncology Department for the wonderful care and respect that was given to Joe during his illness.

The funeral will be held on Friday, December 2nd from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond Street with a Mass at 10 MA in Sacred Heart – Saint Catherine Church 600 Cambridge Street. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are on Thursday, December 1st from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
