Obituary

Francis X. “Frank” Furey, of Hull, formerly of Quincy and Boston, passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease on November 23rd.

He was born on December 10, 1930 in Boston to the late William I. and Helen Murphy Furey.

Frank was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School, where he was a three sport star athlete. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1951-1953. Frank was a long time employee of New England Telephone Company and retired from AT&T in 1989. After his retirement, he worked part-time at the Boston Harbor Commuter Service.

Frank had a profound love for the ocean, and he taught his children and grandchildren the joys of swimming, fishing, sailing, and boating. He enjoyed all sports, most particularly golfing and pond hockey and he passed his love for these activities on to his children and grandchildren. Frank was an original member and long time coach for the Quincy Youth Hockey Association, where he instilled a competitive spirit, sense of fair play, and a love of the game in all the players that he coached.

Frank is survived by his wife of 51 years Eileen (Moynihan) Furey. He is also survived by his sons Michael Furey (QFD) and his wife, Tina, of Quincy, John Furey and his wife, Janine, of Quincy, Paul Furey and his wife, Myra, of Orlando, Florida and daughters Nora McCormack and her husband, David, of Scituate and Maureen Cormican and her husband, Michael, of Quincy He had sixteen loving grandchildren: Brian and Colleen Furey, Melissa, Jenna, Matthew and Nicholas Furey, Ryan, Elizabeth, William, and Brendan Furey, Katherine, Taylor, and Halle McCormack, Julia, Meghan, and Caitlin Cormican. He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret and Winifred Furey of Boston. He was the brother of the late Barbara Buckley and William Furey, Jr. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Frank was a true family man. He set an example of perseverance and hard work for his children, which served as a great source of inspiration for their lives. Frank was loved and respected by everyone he met and will be truly missed.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM.

Burial will be private.
