Obituary

Albert R. Asher, 68, of Westport died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at St. Anne’s Hospital after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Dianne P. (Sherman) Asher.

Born in Newport, RI, son of the late Howard F. Asher and the late Dorothy E. (Howard) Webster, he grew up in Newport and had lived in Portsmouth, RI prior to moving to Westport 17 years ago. Mr. Asher was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a self-employed licensed electrical contractor. Mr. Asher was a member of the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M., Westport, the St. John’s Fishing & Athletic Club, Fall River and the Crazy Eights Card Club. An avid fisherman, quahogger, gardener and bird watcher he was considered a jack of all trades and handyman. A happy and go lucky man, he will always be regarded as a devoted husband and father by his family.

Including his wife, survivors include 2 sons: Albert Asher of Portsmouth and Thomas Asher of Gilbertsville, PA; 6 daughters: Deborah Haas of Portsmouth, Janet Asher of Middletown, Holly Asher of Fall River, Lisa Foster of Tampa, FL, Lori Scheffler of Denver, CO and Randi Skeper of Newton, MA; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was father of the late Desiree Asher and brother of the late Howard Asher and Robert Asher.

Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Acoaxet Chapel, Westport at 12:30 P.M.

Memorial visitation will be Saturday 4 – 7 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home, with a Masonic Service under the direction of the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M. at 6:00 P.M.

Interment will be private.
