Emily Ambra (Ramos) Almeida, 89, of New Bedford died Wednesday November 23, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Anthony J. "Rico" Almeida.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Raymond Ramos and Mary (Ambra) Lopes, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Almeida was a beautician who owned and operated Emily's Beauty Salon on Pleasant Street.
Survivors include two daughters, Gertrude "Trudy" Encarnacao and her husband John of Wakefield and Toni Almeida and her husband Sonny of New Bedford; her daughter-in-law, Arlinda Almeida of Washington, DC; three sisters, Lydia Stevens and Dorothy Lopes, both of New Bedford, and Alicia Ramos of New York; her best friend, Alice Mendes of New Bedford; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Raymond A. Almeida, sister of the late Ida Fermino and Frances Custodio, and the stepdaughter of the late Antonio L. Lopes.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Visiting hours Friday morning from 8:30-10:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial in St. John's Cemetery.
