DUDLEY- Barbara J. (Carlo) Joyce, 69, of Dudley, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 in the Transitional Care Unit at Hubbard after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 39 years, John E. Joyce, Sr.; 2 sons, James T. Hoover and his wife Heidi and John E. Joyce, Jr. and his wife Faith; a daughter, Beth-Anne Hoover, all of Webster; 3 grandchildren, Kellie and Nicholas Hoover and Madeline Joyce; a great granddaughter, Gracie Rybacki; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother John M. Carlo.
She was born and raised in the Roslindale section in Boston, a daughter of Charles and Barbara (Kronmiller) Carlo. She lived in Miami, FL and then in Gainesville, GA before moving to Webster in 1972. She lived in Dudley since 1976. She graduated from Saint Clare’s High School in Roslindale in 1960.
Mrs. Joyce dedicated her life to being a nurse’s aide. She worked at the Jewish Home for the Aged in Worcester, at Holden Nursing Home, at the former Webster Nursing Home, at Oakwood Rehab & Nursing Center and at Christopher heights, all in Webster. She also did private duty nursing.
She was a member of the Emblem Club of the former Webster Lodge of Elks. She enjoyed sewing, shopping and gardening. She particularly loved holidays, especially Christmas and Easter. She spent a great deal of time with her grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Friday, November 25, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street, Webster. A calling period will be from 8:15 to 9:15 AM Friday, November 25, in the funeral home. The family requests donations in her name be made to the Disabled Veterans National Foundation, Inc.
