Died at Lawrence General Hospital at the age of 88. A native of Lawrence, Sr. Marie Germaine was the daughter of the late Ludger and Germaine (Schelling) Sirois. In addition to her Holy Union Sisters, her sisters Madeleine Fluet, Germaine Sheehan and brothers Louis and Philip, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews survive her. Her sisters Marguerite Beaulieu, Marie Marthe Marchand, Pauline Ichton, Sr. Rachel Sirois, SUSC and brothers Francis, Fr. George Sirois, OMI , John, Joseph and Vincent predeceased her.

Sister Marie Germaine graduated from the former Sacred Heart High School, Lawrence. She entered the Holy Union Sisters in Fall River, MA on September 8, 1942 and professed her final vows on July 26, 1950. She studied at the Sacred Heart School of Education, Fall River, MA. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Boston College and Masters in Library Science from Regis College, Weston, MA. She was a certified librarian in the Massachusetts public schools.

For over fifty years, Sister Marie Germaine taught in primary grades in schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Her first teaching assignment was at Sacred Hearts Academy Elementary School, Fall River. From 1946 to 1955, she taught at Our Lady of Pity School, Cambridge. She taught at St. Cecilia School, Pawtucket from 1955 to 1959 and again from 1971 to 1976 and St. John the Baptist School, Pawtucket from 1959 to 1965. She returned to Massachusetts and taught at Rose Hawthorne School, Concord from 1965 to 1970, St. James School, Taunton from 1970 to 1971. She taught in her home parish of Sacred Heart, Lawrence from 1976 to 1987 and served as school librarian from 1987 until the school closed in 1998.

When she retired from school, she served as treasurer for the Holy Union community at St. Mary's Villa, Lowell. She also volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at Saints Memorial Hospital, Lowell. In 2006, she moved to Mary Immaculate Residence, Lawrence where she remained until her death.

The wake will be at Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St, Methuen Monday
November 21 from 2-6 p.m. with a vigil service at 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 22 at 9 a.m. at St. Monica Church, 212 Lawrence St., Methuen. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Andover.
