Obituary

Arthur “Artie” Raymond, in his younger years known as “Zeke” age 86 of Somerset, retired from living on Nov. 17, 2011. He was the widower to his wonderful wife Gladys (Machado) Raymond. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Manuel & Marie (Perry) Raymond. Prior to retiring, Arthur worked as a pneumatic sander for Harvey Probber Mfg. Co. After retiring, he worked as a courier for his son.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, receiving an Honorable Discharge on Jan. 21, 1946 and a veteran of the Korean Conflict, receiving an Honorable Discharge on August 27, 1951. During his time in the Navy, Arthur held the rank of Gunner’s Mate Third Class. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, European African Medal, Eastern Campaign Medal, Korean Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Krajowa Rada Arodowa 9.V. 1945 Medal, American Merchant Marine Medal WWII, Federation of French War Veteran Medal. Arthur was a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Council 3669 Bishop James E. Cassidy of Swansea.

He is survived by his son Steven Raymond of Somerset, grandchildren Steven A. Raymond & Shawn S. Raymond and brother Henry Raymond of Fall River and many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Correira, late Manuel Raymond, late Evangelina Dennis, late Jesse Raymond and late John Raymond.

His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME 1512 N. Main St Fall River on MONDAY here at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John of God Church, Brayton Ave., Somerset at 9:00 A.M. Interment in Nathan Slade Cemetery, Somerset.
