Todd Andrew Joiner, 42, entered into rest on November 12, 2011 in Los Angeles, CA from complications due to a strep infection. Todd, an Athens, GA native, earned his BA from the University of Georgia and his MA from Augusta State University. Todd was a dedicated teacher who taught in numerous schools throughout Georgia and Pennsylvania. He challenged his students to become more than they thought they could ever become. He encouraged and pushed his students in the classroom as well as in the many extra-curricular activities that he coached over the years: tennis, soccer, basketball, football, and Beta Club. In addition to teaching public school, Todd taught a Political Science class at the University of Pennsylvania, led a weekly segment on the NPR show Justice Talking, and ran the snow sports school at Lake Placid Ski Resort.
In 2004, Todd married his soul mate Bree. They made Athens, GA their home and started a family. Todd put as much dedication and passion into raising his children, Rusty and Violet, as he did into teaching. Todd lived for them and found no greater joy than when the whole family would be together.
Todd and his family are members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Athens, GA. He is survived by his wife, Bree and his two children, Rusty (5) and Violet (2). In addition he is survived by his parents; Richard and Julia Joiner, brothers; Allan (Lana), Brad (Laura Lee) and Brian Joiner; nieces and nephews; Andrew, Matthew, Allison, Brad, Catherine and Patrick Joiner and uncle; Stuart Murray. Additional members of his family include James and Beth Ann Borke, Anna and Michael.
