Obituary



Albert P. Ahern 85, a Franklin resident since 1994, and formerly of Norwood, died Tuesday November 15, 2011 at the Maples Rehabilitation Center in Wrentham, following a long illness. He was the husband of Mary A. (Connelly) Ahern for 59 years.
Born in Boston, October 15, 1926 a son of the late Albert J. and Adelaide (Paul) Ahern, he was raised in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston, and attended the former Blessed Sacrament School, and graduated from Boston English High School.
Mr. Ahern retired as a manager in 1984 from the former New England Telephone & Telegraph Company in Boston, where he worked for 38 years.
He served in the United States Navy during WWll, entering in 1944 he attained rank of seaman second class. He was awarded the WWll Victory Medal and the American Theater Medal; he was honorably discharged in July 1946.
He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and loved spending time with family and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed bicycling, reading, travel and the beaches at Cape Cod.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son Peter A. Ahern and his wife Julie of Attleboro, 2 daughters; Patricia A. Toney and her husband Byron of Franklin, Jane M. Lazzaro and her husband Gerard of Walpole, 2 sisters Janice D’Andrea of Walpole, and Nancy Herman of Wakefield, New Hampshire, 8 grandchildren; Jessica, Michelle, Andrew Ahern, Sean, Christopher, and Caroline Toney, Kerin and Nichole Lazzaro.
He was also the father of the late Mark P. Ahern, who died in 1978 and the brother of the late Richard Ahern.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday Nov. 18th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin, at 10AM.
Interment with military honors will follow in Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
Calling hours are Thursday from 4-8PM at the funeral home.
