Obituary

GLOUCESTER: David J. Norton, 57, of Hodgkins Street, died early Saturday morning, November 12, 2011, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Barbara J. (George) Norton.
Born in Boston on June 24, 1954, he was the son of the late George J. and Elizabeth M. (Craik) Norton. He was a graduate of the Wilmington High School class of 1972. He has been a resident of Gloucester for the past twenty-eight years.
An engine mechanic, Dave was employed for the past two years at the Cape Ann Marina. He had also worked at the former Rice Rental in Beverly for three years, as well as being a heavy equipment operator.
A fan of old motorcycles and cars, he thoroughly enjoyed time spent on his 1938 Servicar and 1941 WLC. He was a former member of the Free Spirits Motorcycle Club. He was also a longtime member of the Union Congregational Church of Magnolia, the Cape Ann Sportsman’s Club and the N.R.A.
In addition to his wife of nine years, he is survived by his stepson, Vincent, husband of Marissa (Daley) Ciarametaro; two brothers, the Rev. Norman J. Norton and his wife, Edith and the Rev. George Norton, Jr., and his wife, Carol; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 4 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Union Congregational Church, 3 Norman Ave., Magnolia, MA 01930.
