Gloria H. (Maxwell) Thorley of Stoneham passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at her residence. She was 85 years of age.
Born in Woburn, Gloria was the loving daughter of the late George and Grace (Lewis) Maxwell. She was warm and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Gloria was a lover of music and the written word, nature and especially the ocean, particularly the North Shore and her cherished Craigville Beach on Cape Cod, where she summered as a child. She was a loving and faithful Christian, active in Saint James United Methodist Church in Stoneham in many capacities but most notably as a member of the choir, where she raised her voice in praise of her God for many years, including her solos of “O Holy Night” on many a Christmas Eve.
Gloria was the beloved wife of the late David Thorley. Devoted mother of Alan and his wife Teresa, Douglass and his wife Beth, Stephen and his wife Gayle, Susan Thorley - Hess and her husband Wayne, Diana Farley and her husband John, Mark and his wife Dianne, David and Tresa. Cherished grandmother of 10 and great grandmother of 6. Dear sister of John “Bobby” Connor, and the late Julia Maxwell, Virginia McIntyre, Grace Moore, Benjamin Maxwell, George Don Maxwell, Ruth Fondulis and Rita Barretto.
A Funeral Service celebrating Gloria’s Eternal Life will be held on Tuesday at 11am in St. James United Methodist Church, 50 Central St. Stoneham. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Monday from 4-8pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
