WORCESTER: Joan C. Gilrain, 82, of Duncannon Ave., died peacefully with her family by her side, Saturday, November 11, 2011, at UMass Memorial Medical Center- University Campus, after a long illness.
She leaves her sister, Gloria M. D. Gilrain, with whom she lived; and several cousins. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Daniel A. and Mary T. “Minnie” (O’Donoghue) Gilrain. She graduated from North High School and attended Ward’s Airline School.
Joan was an accountant and assistant treasurer at Worcester State Hospital where she worked for 26 years, retiring in 1997. She previously worked 10 years as a Flight Attendant with Eastern Airlines. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Eastern Air Lines Silverliners International, Eastern Air Lines Retirees Association, and the Massachusetts State Retirees Association. She had also been a member of the Worcester Music Festival Chorus and the Worcester Oratorical Society. She enjoyed painting, traveling and reading.
CALLING HOURS will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on MONDAY, NOV. 14, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 11 A.M. on TUESDAY, NOV. 15 at OUR LADY OF LOURDES CHURCH, 1290 Grafton St. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
