Lewis Albert Joy, age 62, died Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. He was born in Lafayette County on December 7, 1948 to the late Commodore and Essie Wadlinton Joy. Lewis retired from Emerson Electric after 25 years of service. He was an outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. His family always came first. Lewis was a member of Martin Street Church of Christ in Water Valley, MS.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Hubert Goodman, Bro. Walter Williams and Bro. Brian Ayers officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley, MS with Terry Sayles, Sherman Gooch, Jermaine Gooch, Billy Joy, Charles Joy and Albert Lee Willingham serving as pallbearers. Tommy Bailey, Ernest Vassar, Ken Folson, Mark Mathis, Brian Ayers, Walter Williams, Jr. and Lewis Demps will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Lewis is survived by his wife, Bertha S. Joy of Water Valley, MS; seven daughters, Yvette Bailey (Tommy) of Water Valley, MS, Gloria Mathis (Mark) of Hays, KS, Belinda Joy Vassar (Ernest) of Oxford, MS, Casandra Joy Folson (Ken) of Water Valley, MS, Tanya Ayers (Brian) of Memphis, TN, Lakeysha Demps (Lewis) of Seattle, WA and Kimberly Joy Williams (Walter) of Water Valley, MS; three sisters, Lula Pratcher of Memphis, TN, Annie Fay White of Oxford, MS and Nina Hervey of Detroit, MI; two brothers, L. P. Joy of Holly Springs, MS and James Joy of Harrisburg, PA; sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
