Mary E. (Machado) Ferreira, 79 of New Bedford died November 4, 2011 at Sacred Heart Home after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Gilbert Ferreira.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lemos) Machado, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Ferreira was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
She was the proprietor of Crystal Beauty Salon for over 35 years.
Mrs. Ferreira was the valedictorian of New Bedford Vocational School, class of 1949. She later attended beauty school in Boston.
She enjoyed dancing and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include five sons, Steven Ferreira, Mark Ferreira and his wife Lisa and Michael Ferreira and his wife Diane, all of New Bedford, David Ferreira and his wife Sarit of Attleboro and James Ferreira and his wife Caren of Dartmouth; two brothers, James Machado of Freetown and Edward Machado of Barnstable; her aunt, Clara Machado; ten grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Tuesday, November 8th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday, November 6th from 4-8 PM. There will be no visiting hours on Monday. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
