Worcester - Robert A. Evers, 67, passed away unexpectedly at UMass Medical Center, University Campus on Tuesday, November 1, 2011. He is survived by a son Derek A. Evers and his wife, Tiffani, and a daughter, Elizabeth M. Smarra and her husband, Salvatore, all of Worcester. A son, Christopher W. Evers passed away in 2006. He also leaves a brother, Howard Evers and his wife, Pamela, of Oxford; five grandchildren; and a nephew.
Bob was born in Worcester, son of A. Lillian (Collamore) and Raymond W. Evers. He was a graduate of North High, earned his undergraduate degree in teaching at Worcester State College and his Master's degree in counseling from Assumption College. He loved the game of basketball and played on teams at North High, Worcester State, and summer leagues. He also played hockey and was one of the pioneers of the Hockey Club that represented Worcester State. Mr. Evers taught math and was a guidance counselor at Millbury Memorial Junior/Senior High School. As an educator, Mr. Evers made a difference in many of his students' lives. During the summer months, Bob operated R & R Associates, a house-painting business. He also enjoyed reading, New England sports teams, and canoe racing.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 4, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street. Calling hours will be held between 4 and 7 p.m., with a service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mustard Seed, 93 Piedmont St., Worcester MA 01609 or the Soup Kitchen Fund at St. John's, 40 Temple St., Worcester MA 01604.
