Obituary

Douglas Perina, 67, of Groton Long Point, passed away Tuesday at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

A native of Staten Island, he was born on December 18, 1943 the son of Arthur E. and Doris (Pero) Perina. He was a 1961 graduate of Port Richmond High School and later proudly served in the US Army until his honorable discharge in 1967.

In 1979, the family moved to Groton Long Point. He was employed for the Town of Groton Department of Public Works where he retired as Building Maintenance Supervisor in April, 2010.

He also served as a Building Inspector for the Town of Groton Long Point, Chief of the Groton Long Point Fire Department, and President of the New London County USA Ballroom Dance Assoc.

He was married to Barbara (Henry) Perina on Staten Island on August 10, 1968. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Judy and David Smith of Mystic and Jennifer and Norman Malbaurn of Waterford; his grandchildren, Lauren & Heather Smith, Matthew, Cole , and Chase Malbaurn; a brother, Donald Perina; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Perina Jr.

His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Friday from 5-8pm.

A Memorial luncheon to celebrate his life will be held at The Fisherman Restaurant in Noank on Sunday, Nov. 13th at 2:30pm. Friends are invited to join the Perina family to share this relaxed fellowship and joyful remembrance of Doug's life.
