Richard S. O'Brien, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 61 years old.
Richie was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1968 and later graduated from Bunker Hill Community College with a degree in Business Administration. Richie established the Bunker Hill Insurance Agency in Charlestown in the 1980's which he managed for more than 20 years. He was a member of Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus, Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association and usher at St. Francis De Sales Church in Charlestown.
Richie is the beloved husband of the late Sheila (Bird) O'Brien. He is the devoted father of Kaylee O'Brien of Charlestown and Richard Evers of Charlestown. He is the loving grandfather of Joseph S. Brown. He is the beloved brother of Betty Magistro and her husband Sal of New Hampshire, Mary Rose Landolf and her husband Paul of Brockton and Patricia O'Brien of North Carolina. He is the loving uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Richie's Funeral on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m.
