Obituary

Dr. Marcel E. Lavoie, 94, of Villa Crest Retirement Center, Manchester died October 24, 2011.
He was born in Manchester on July 16, 1917, the son of Oreus and Georgine (Bussiere) Lavoie and attended local parochial schools. He received a B.A. from St. Anselm College, M.S. from UNH and PhD from Syracuse University. He served in WWII, first in the 172nd F.A. and then for three years as an officer in the Army Medical Service Corps in the US and in France.
Dr. Lavoie taught chemistry at St. Anselm for two years, was a professor of Biology and of Human Anatomy and Physiology at Syracuse for three years and for thirty-one years at UNH with a total of two thousand students. He retired from teaching in 1984.
He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Jeanette (Bouchard) Lavoie in January of 2011.
Family members include two sons, Dr. Ronald L. Lavoie and his wife Jeanette (Leclerc) Lavoie of Charlottesville, VA, Dennis M. Lavoie and his wife Dr. Dawn (Leone) Lavoie of Mandeville, LA; four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral services were private at the convenience of the family.
