Obituary

Cora Helen Webb, died Oct.24, 2011 in Easthampton, MA.

Born in Boston, MA Nov 9, 1919 to the late George E. Webb and Margaret (Weaver) Webb. Beloved sister of George E. Webb, Jr., of Wellesley, MA, the late John F. Webb and Janet Webb. Survived by her three nieces Margaret Webb of Wellesley, Susan Webb of Wellesley, and Nancy Webb Leblang of Wayland.

After attending the Wellesley schools, she earned a B.S. degree from Framingham State College in 1941 and an M.S. in Education from Cornell University in 1952.

She began her career as a home economics teacher in Topsfield, MA in 1941. The following year Miss Webb joined the Univ. of Maine Cooperative Extension Service as Kennebec County 4H Club agent.

In 1945 she was employed by the Univ. of Conn. Cooperative Extension Service as the Tolland County Home Economist. She served as the County Administrator from 1972 until retiring in 1974.

In 1957 Miss Webb was named Community Development Advisor to the government of Iraq with the International Cooperation Administration (State Department). She returned to the United States following the assassination of the King.

She was involved in the incorporation of the Tolland Bank and served on its board.

Cora’s international interests led to her membership in the Friendship Force of CT. She entertained Ambassadors from other countries, assisted foreign visitors and participated in international meetings.

Since retirement she had more time to enjoy traveling and making friends. She also pursued her hobbies -photography, gardening, and downhill skiing until age 75.

She received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Assoc. of Extension Home Economists. She was honored by Framingham Teachers College with the Distinguished Alumna Award.

Miss Webb was a member of Rockville Congregational Church, the Conn. Home Economics Assoc., Epsilon Sigma Phi, and life member of National Grange and Girl Scouts of America.

Miss Webb moved to Lathrop Retirement Community in Easthampton, MA in 1999.

Funeral Service in the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt.16) WELLESLEY, Thursday at 2 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visitation prior to the service from 1-2 PM. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
