South Dartmouth - Alice (Freitas) Mello , 74, of South Dartmouth, formerly of New Bedford, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Gilbert C. Mello. She was the mother of David W. Mello of Largo, Fla., Linda M. Mydlack of New Bedford, Donna M. Ryan of S. Dartmouth, Sister Cynthia A. Mello, SSD of Bristol, R.I., and mother of the late Michael W. Mello. She had 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mrs. Mello was the sister of Francisco, Raymond and Deolinda Freitas all of New Bedford, Manuel and Augustino Freitas both of Florida, and Daniel Freitas of California. She was also sister of the late Joseph, Antonio and John Freitas, Celeste Souza and Mary Arthur. Mrs. Mello also had several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Mello was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Antonio Rodrigues Freitas and Virginia (Fernandes) Freitas.
Her funeral will be Monday, March 8, 2004, from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Rivet St. New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours will be Sunday, March 7, 2004 from 5 - 8 P.M.
