Obituary

Rochester – Raymond C. Lawrence, age 90, of Rochester passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 peacefully at home after battling cancer. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Agnes “Nan” (Savaria) Lawrence. He was the son of the late George W. and Mildred (Ellis) Lawrence.

Raymond was born in New Bedford and lived most of his life in Rochester. He graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School and then served the country in the Army Air Force for four years during World War II. After being discharged, he worked as a construction superintendent for local construction companies in the area including Gilbane, Loranger and Sullivan-Foster. He was also a member of Carpenters Local 1305. Raymond was Rochester’s first building inspector.

Raymond, with a strong mechanical aptitude, was happiest when creating a useful tool or implement using parts from obsolete or discarded equipment or appliances. He also enjoyed dining at local restaurants and taking Sunday rides around the region with his loving wife Nan.

Raymond is survived by a son and a daughter: Raymond A. and his wife Annette (Robitaille) Lawrence of Rochester and Carolyn McGarvey of Marston Mills. He was also predeceased by an infant son, Gordon. He has six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is survived by one sister, Muriel Washburn of Carver.

As Raymond was a very private person, there will be no visiting hours and the services will be for immediate family only.
