HAVERHILL: Norma E. Fellows, 87, died early Sunday, October 23, 2011 in the Brigham Manor in Newburyport following a brief illness.
Born in Haverhill on April 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Norman H. and Josephine P. (Powers) Fellows. A lifelong resident of Haverhill, she was a graduate of Haverhill High School class of 1942 and the former McIntosh Business College in Haverhill.
Miss Fellows was employed as secretary in the Department of Social Services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years before her retirement in 1980. She had also once worked as a legal secretary for the Cleary Law Office and was an Assistant Director for the School Savings Banking Department.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Georgetown Women’s Club and the Women’s City Club of Haverhill.
She is survived by her cousins, Col. John F. Powers, Jr. (Ret. U.S. Army) of Carmel, CA, Dr. John P. Powers and his wife Anne of Pacific Grove, CA, Paul R. Powers and his wife, Mary of The Villages, FL, Dr. Edward J. Powers and his wife, Barbara of Austin, TX and Bernice Powers of Bradford and Norma’s godson, Bruce Powers and his wife, Ellen of Bradford. She was also predeceased by her cousin, Richard E. Powers.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Interment will be held in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
