PLYMOUTH: John Forrest Ahern
, 83, of Priscilla Beach (Plymouth), formerly of Wayland, at home October 21, 2011. Husband of Maura (Conboy) Ahern. Father of John F Ahern Jr. and his wife Jean of Oxford, Kevin G. Ahern of Plymouth, Catherine M. Balben of Wayland, Patricia A. Ahern of Quincy and James G. Ahern of FL. Father-in-law of Terri Ahern of Sandwich and the late Janet Ahern and Jack Balben. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and many nieces and nephews.
John was born in Boston the son of the late John and Annie (Forrest) Ahern. He graduated from Hyde Park High School where he ran track and was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp. He attended Quinsigamond Community College and earned an AS in Fire Science. John joined the US Air Force in 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict. After the war, he continued to serve his country in the Air Force Reserves and retired in 1972. John was a Firefighter for the Town of Wayland for 16 years serving as their Union President for many years. John was President of the Priscilla Beach Association and The Plymouth Chapter of the AARP. He was a part time lobster fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Funeral from the Richard Davis Funeral Home 619 State Road (Rte 3A) Plymouth (Manomet) Tuesday October 25 at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Bonaventure’s Parish at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Monday October 24 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to St. Bonaventure’s Building Fund, P.O. Box 996, Manomet, MA 02345. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery Bourne MA
