Obituary

TAUNTON – Manuel E. “Sonny” Fontes, 83, died unexpectedly at his Taunton home on Oct. 18, 2011.
Born, raised and educated in Taunton, he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Lopes) Fontes.
A Navy veteran of WW II, he served aboard the USS Sea Leopard SS 483 submarine.
For many years, he worked as a long distance truck driver for several area companies, including GE, Chadwick’s and Narragansett Wire.
He was later employed by the former Abbott Action as a courier.
Mr. Fontes enjoyed spending time at the Pub 76, visiting friends and playing Keno.
A NASCAR fan, he was fond of watching his favorite driver, Tony Stewart.
He was a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church.
Survivors include a son, Jeffery A. Fontes of Hollywood, FL; two daughters, Brenda J. Fontes of Taunton, and Carol A. and her husband Frank A. Delgado, Jr. of Taunton; two brothers, John and James Fontes, both of Taunton; two sisters, Mary Louise Montrond of Lakeville, and Margaret “Nina” Rose of Taunton; four grandchildren, Jeffery A. Fontes, Jr., Jessica L. Fontes, Shena Nicole Delgado and Colby Alan Fontes-Delgado; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Monday Oct. 24th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of The Lord Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Mayflower Hill Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday Oct. 23rd from 4 to 8 p.m.
