Earl L. Quimby, 86, of Beverly, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011 following a brief illness at Beverly Hospital. He was the husband of the late Irene (Poussard) Quimby, with whom he shared sixty years of marriage.
Born in Beverly on Oct. 10, 1925, he was the son of the late Willis and Mary (Tyrell) Quimby. He was raised and educated in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1943. He went on to served honorably in the US Navy during WWII.
A resident of Danvers for many years, Mr. Quimby was employed as a machinist at the former United Shoe Manufacturing Co. He was a member of the Salem VFW Post 1524.
He is survived by 5 daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Michael McLain of Arizona, Eleanor and Stephen Lavoie of Chester, NH, Marie and Timothy Burns of Beverly, Patricia and Wayne Gardner of Stratham, NH, and Susan and Gerald Bradley of Manchester, NH, a brother, Willis Quimby of Beverly, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Olive Smith.
His Funeral Service will be Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at 1PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will precede the service from 11-1PM. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Earl’s name may be made to the Mass Commission for the Blind, 48 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02116.
