Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Marilyn “Sis” (Vestal) LaChance, 81, of McPherson Park died suddenly Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Raymond J. LaChance, who died in August of 1999.
Born in Gloucester on November 6, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John and Virginia (Camille) Vestal. She was a lifelong resident and had attended Gloucester public schools.
Sis and Ray owned and operated the former Pa Cooney’s Restaurant and the Taxi Diner. She had also waitressed at the Rudder on Rocky Neck and later at Cameron’s for twelve years.
She was employed by Gorton’s of Gloucester for fourteen years prior to retiring in the late 1990’s.
She enjoyed playing pokeno and spending time with her friends at McPherson Park. Devoted to her family and friends, Sis had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nannette C. and Edward Roaden; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark, husband of Maureen (Pelletier) LaChance and Raymond J. LaChance; eight grandchildren, MSGT Jason Theriault, USAF, husband of Tammy Theriault, Nicole, wife of David Provencial, Ryan, husband of Andrea LaChance, Katie LaChance, Cody LaChance, Raymond J. LaChance, Jr., Derek LaChance and Kyle Burbine; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary and Ian Theriault, Zachary Provencial, Haley LaChance and Kiley LaChance; her sister-in-law, Joyce Vestal and her dear friends, Shirley Saulnier and Lois Lovasco; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her brother, John “Jackie” Vestal.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
