EUSTIS, William Ellery Channing, died peacefully on October 17, 2011. Loving husband of the late
Mary Howard Armstrong; proud father of Elspeth Taylor, Polly, Fred, & Gus Eustis; grandfather of Ann & William Taylor, Phoebe, Madeline, Sophie, Elspeth, Susie, & Augustus Eustis; great grandfather of seven. He grew up in Milton & Scraggy Neck, graduated from Harvard College, & returned to Cambridge in 1950, where he & Mary raised their children. His career started in chemical engineering,& expanded into a variety of entrepreneurial activities, including retail sporting goods, an ice skating
rink, & furniture manufacturing. A favorite was Hedco, which developed an innovative method of snow
making for ski areas, still in use today. In his later years at Scraggy Neck & Venice, Florida, he devoted
much of his energy to forest management and other environmental projects. Memorial service Sat, Oct
29, Noon; First Parish, Milton, MA. No flowers; any contributions to Bourne Conservation Trust, or
DeRham Hospice House.
