Obituary

Marjorie Louise (Fish) Robinson, aged 76, of Mystic, Connecticut passed away on October 11th. She was born May 14, 1935 in Mystic to William and Agnes Fish of River Road. She attended Mystic Academy; Fitch High School; Colby College; The University of Connecticut, Storrs; Russell Sage College and The University of Tennessee, Knoxville earning both Batchelor’s and Masters’ degrees in Education and English. She enjoyed the years she spent with her homebound students as a teacher in Knoxville, TN.

Marjorie was married to Richard W. Robinson for 37 years. She is survived by her 3 children, Dan, Sharon and Jon, her brother Billy and her sister Betty, her 9 grandchildren and her 2 great-grandchildren.

She lived in Connecticut, New York State, North Carolina, Tonga in the South Pacific (where she was fondly known as ‘Ma’asi’), Tennessee, briefly in Georgia and South Carolina and then again in Mystic.

She loved nature and animals. Many in the Mystic area knew her because of her African Gray Parrot, Misty. She looked forward every year to the signs of spring’s arrival, like the new growth of Columbine in the fields, the first Snow Drops blooming and the Lady Slippers in the Peace Sanctuary. She also loved poetry, music, dance and ice skating. She instilled in her children a love of art, literature and the performing arts.

She has lived at Academy Pointe in Mystic for the last 9 years where she herself blossomed and truly enjoyed the last years of her life. She grew to love the staff and other residents whom she knew as her extended family. For this, her family is extremely grateful.

Marge was a nonconformist and chose to extend her compassion to a wide variety of people. She saw past the differences and acknowledged the inner beauty in many most of us choose just to ignore. She was commonly uninhibited in her displays of affection, often reaching out and touching others without the usual reservation. Some were uncomfortable with her lack of inhibition, others found it refreshing.

There were times when Marge truly struggled with life. Maybe it was because of her own life struggles that her innate desire to reach out to others became her driving force. Her final years were filled with an almost constant stream of small but far from insignificant acts of kindness. We will miss her, terribly.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 15, at 10:00am at Union Baptist Church, Mystic. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Elaine and Stanley Banks of 20 Billiard Rd., New London to help support their menagerie of over 80 birds that have outlived their owners or are wards because of being the victims of abuse, trauma or neglect. Elaine and Stanley have kindly taken over the care of Marjorie’s bird Misty. They want you to know that they are not an official charitable organization, so your donations will not be tax deductible. Otherwise please feel welcome to make a donation to the charity of your choice.
