Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Melvin Donald Taylor, age 94 years, of New Bedford, died Sunday, October 9, 2011, at the Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility.

Born April 15, 1917, he lived in New Bedford all of his life, except during WWII when he was in the Army Air Force and stationed in Casper, Wyoming, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Oahu, Hawaii.

A 1935 graduate of New Bedford High School, his career was with the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company in Fall River and New Bedford. Following retirement, he was a driver and courier for Fairhaven Corporation of New Bedford. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

His wife, Mabel (Davis) Taylor, pre-deceased him in February of 2009 after 67 years of marriage. He is survived by two children, Linda Taylor (married to William Monigle) of Venice, Florida and Barbara Taylor (married to Allen Monsarrat) of Knoxville, Tennessee; three surviving grandchildren, Gail Dexter of Pembroke, N.H., Todd Skoglund of Boston, MA., and Rev. Allison Farnum of Ft. Myers, FL; a great-granddaughter, Annelise Dexter of N.H.

He is also survived by a large extended and cherished Taylor family including two brothers, Alden and Rodman Taylor; a sister, Lois Ainsley; a sister-in-law, Terry Taylor; nieces and nephews and the children of those nieces and nephews.

His memorial service will take place on Wednesday, October 12th at 11:30 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, 422 County St., New Bedford, Ma. Burial is private. Remembrances may be made in his name to the Grace Church Food Pantry, 133 School St., NB 02740
