NORTON- Marie M. Lemieux, née Yelle, of Norton, died October 10, 2011, after a short illness. She was 96.
A devoted wife and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Raymond O. Lemieux, and her son, David L. Johnson.
Born and educated in Norton, she went on to work for many years in customer service at the Fernandes family’s flagship store in Norton, where her husband also worked.
At retirement, the Lemieuxs moved to Clearwater Beach, Florida where they spent 15 happy and active years, making new friends and enjoying visits from a steady stream of friends and family from home.
When Raymond died in 1988, Marie returned to Norton to be closer to family. A legendary and generous cook, she also loved flowers, tending to her hydrangeas and lilies until the end. She was an active member of the Norton Historical Society from its inception.
In addition to her daughter-in-law, Nancy C. Johnson, of Blackstone, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Alta E. Yelle of Norton, and many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Joseph E., Adrian E., Henri A., Wilfrid J., Leo G., Francis X., Benedict J., and Donat E. Yelle, Angeline M. Guevremont, Corinne Bottomley, Marguerite Chamberlain, and Rita Gadway.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 22nd at St. Mary’s Church, One Power Street, Norton. A private burial will be held in Norton Center Cemetery.
