Sr. Laura Martin (Sr. M. Louis Omer), 91, of the Sisters of Holy Cross, 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester died February 29, 2004 at her residence.
Born in New Bedford, MA on February 9, 1913, she was the daughter of Louis and Eva (Rousseau) Martin. She entered the congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1932 and made her final profession in 1939.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame College, Manchester in 1956, a master’s degree from St. Michael’s College, Winooski, VT in 1965 and a certificate in religious studies from Providence College, Providence, RI in 1973.
Sr. Martin taught at parochial elementary and high schools in New Hampshire at Manchester, Nashua, Rochester and Suncook and in North Grosvenordale, CT and New Bedford, MA. She also served as director of religious education at St. John the Baptist Church in Suncook and St. Francis Xavier Church in Nashua.
In her retirement she volunteered at Catholic Medical Center, Manchester and Merrimack Nursing Home, Boscawen.
She was stationed in West Franklin in 1991 and retired at Holy Cross Health Center in Manchester in 1997.
The family includes nieces and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday March 3, 2004 in the chapel at St. George Manor. Burial was in St. Augustin Cemetery, Manchester.
