Obituary

Kordis, Helen M. of Roslindale returned to the loving arms of her husband "Jack", John F. Kordis, on October 8, 2011 at the age of 86. Helen leaves nine devoted children who cared for her at home until her death after a long illness: J. Christopher Kordis and his wife Lorraine of Braintree, Thomas Kordis of San Diego, California, Peggie Kordis-Hinton and her husband Bill of West Roxbury, Terry Nearhos and her husband James of Roslindale, Julie Burns and her husband John of Plymouth, Ted Kordis and his wife Paula of Peabody, Alice Edmonds and her husband Steven of Dedham, Michael Kordis of Roslindale, and Mark Kordis and his wife Angie of Louisville, Kentucky. She was "Nana" and "Babci" to 14 grandchildren; Jason, Bea, Jessica, Amanda, Billy, Cameron, Brianna, Alexandra, Mark, Matthew, Andrew, Christopher, Sandra Jane and Joshua. She lived to see and hold her first great grandchild, Kaelyn Rose in August of this year.Helen (formally Muszynski), daughter to Polish immigrants, John and Emilia Muszynski (both deceased), grew up in Ludlow, Massachusetts with her brothers Ted and Stan (both deceased). She travelled to Boston to attend Boston City Hospital School of Nursing (Graduate: Class of 1946). There she met Jack and made her home in Roslindale. Her nursing career spanned more than forty years, beginning in trauma at Boston City Hospital, then neurosurgery at George Washington University Hospital in D.C., but predominantly at The Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, now Brigham and Women's Hospital - for more than thirty years in many leadership roles ending with decades as night nursing supervisor. Her life was dedicated to service, first to her patients and nursing staff, then to her children with the protection of the Virgin Mary, and finally to her husband of 49 years Jack, until he died in 1999. Helen's favorite prayer was, "Mary I'll take care of the sick ones, you take care of my healthy ones". We'll miss you mama.
