
Jack Crawford Parker of Chatham and formerly of Danville, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Chatham Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Danville on February 12, 1933, he was the son of the late Crafford Parker and Janie Lucy Hanks Parker. He was married to Peggy Ray Parker who predeceased him on November 1, 1995. He is survived by a brother, Harry Parker and wife, Ann of Danville, VA, a niece Sabrina Parker and a nephew, Harry Parker, Jr. He was also predeceased by a brother, Eugene Parker. Jack also left behind his dear friends Jim and Leslie McDole of Chatham as well as as a cherished friend of over 28 years, Dr. Donna Helton. He also cared deeply for Robin Young and Shannon Grishaw, who cared for him at Oak Grove Lodge.
Jack was a United States Army veteran who served during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged. He was also recently inducted into the Chatham Post of the American Legion, an honor of which he was very proud. He had various occupations throughout his life, including hairstylist. Jack was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years and was devoted to his faith.
The family will receive friends and acquaintances Wednesday evening, October 12th, from 7 –8 pm at Barker Funeral Home located at 2025 N Main Street, Danville. A Roman Catholic Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, October 13th at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by interment at Danville Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 1097, Danville. A reception will be held at Sacred Heart Church immediately following Jack’s burial. Memorial contributions can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic School Tuition Assistance Fund.
A very special thank you to the Staff of Chatham Health and Rehabilitation Center, Jack’s last home. They provided a home of care, comfort and compassion and embraced Jack Parker as a member of their family. Their love and devotion, especially during his last hours will never be forgotten.
