Obituary

Navin, Marie (B.), of Duxbury, passed away peacefully in Worcester after a lengthy illness on October 5, at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Edward J. Navin, devoted mother of Bonnie Garris of Duxbury, Barbara Quinchia and her husband Ivan of Westford, Scott Navin and his wife Mary Lou of Norfolk, Christopher Navin and his wife Amy of Grafton. Loving Grandmother to David Garris of Duxbury, Cole & Elizabeth Navin of Grafton, and John & Abigail Navin of Norfolk.

Marie was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. The daughter of Joseph and Emma (Poth) Bowers, and beloved sister of the late Walter Bowers. In her early years, Marie held a variety of interesting jobs, including her work as a wiring inspector on an assembly line for bombers during World War II, press photographer, and floor manager of Cleveland’s famous Alpine Village Supper Club on Playhouse Square. The Club attracted some of the biggest names in entertainment as both performers and patrons, affording her the opportunity to get to personally know many famous actors and singers as they began their journey to fortune and fame. Her knack for storytelling around the many “behind the scene” occurrences never failed to captivate friends and family.
Once she met (in Cleveland) and married the love of her life, Edward (originally from Wollaston Ma), they settled down in 1950 to begin raising their family. Marie became a devoted and accomplished homemaker, managing along the way to oversee multiple family moves as Edward’s career as a professional engineer, specializing in power plant construction, took them from Cleveland to Baltimore, to New Jersey (twice), and North Carolina before ending up in Duxbury in 1974. Always, Marie had an engaging and outgoing personality with the ability to make friends and warm conversation wherever she went. Marie was a wonderful cook, taking pride in her efforts and spoiling the family with terrific home cooked meals. It wasn’t unusual for her children’s friends to conveniently find a reason to be at the house around dinner time. Marie loved animals, the house was never without pets (usually more than one); and she loved to stay abreast of current affairs (particularly politics), and took great pride in the accomplishments of her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A private ceremony for family and friends will be held at MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean St Rte 139 Marshfield on Wednesday Oct 12, at 11 AM, followed by internment at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, in Quincy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial/tribute gifts may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Rd, Worcester, MA.01602-3213
