Obituary

Walter O. Kenyon, 86, of New Bedford died Wednesday October 5, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Josephine (Medeiros) Kenyon.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Harvey H. and Nellie F. (Harrington) Kenyon, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Mr. Kenyon was formerly employed as a police officer for the New Bedford Police Department. He was later employed as the assistant golf professional at the Rhode Island Country Club and as the golf professional at the Country Club of New Bedford.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps aboard the USS Massachusetts in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

Mr. Kenyon was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association and a former member of the Professional Golfer's Association.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth W. Kenyon and his companion Kim Macey of New Bedford; a daughter, Janet L. Haggerty and her husband Edward of Lakeville; three grandchildren, Bridget F. Haggerty, Brendan E. Haggerty and Kelly A. Haggerty; three great-grandchildren, Edward D. Neisig, Michael DeSouza and Emily DeSouza.


He was the brother of the late Harvey Kenyon, Margery Dutra, Rose Marie Boardman and Alma Frances Mastera.

His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 1 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Saturday from 11 AM - 1 PM. Private burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave., Suite 2, Norwood, MA 02062.
