Obituary


Vivian Stanton Avery Williams, 87, of North Stonington, our dear mother, passed away peacefully at Shady Acres Nursing Home in West Kingston, RI, on Wednesday, October 5, 2011.

Vivian was born in Ledyard Center on May 22, 1924 to the late Andrew M. and Goldie Belle (Davis) Avery. She attended a one-room school house and graduated from NFA in 1941. She was a loving and generous wife, mother and grandmother. She is a member of the Ledyard Center Congregational Church, the Mayflower Society and an officer of the Avery Cemetery Association and had been a docent at the Denison Homestead and a volunteer in the genealogy section of the Westerly Library.

She is survived by her daughter Debra and her husband Craig Gabriele of North Stonington, her daughter Kathryn and her husband Donald Wittig of Hope Valley, RI and a son Joseph Williams of Lincoln, ME; her grandchildren Robert and Philip Gabriele, Jon and Daniel Wittig, and Elaine Pasieka; her great grandchildren Douglas and Alison Pasieka; and her sister Charlotte Geer.

She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Roy Williams who died in 1992, her sister Dorothy Clark and her brother Andrew D. Avery.

Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Saturday from 9am to 9:45am, immediately followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Avery Cemetery off Route 164 in Preston.
