Obituary

Matthew J. “Matty” Tighe age 88, of Brockton died Tuesday October 4, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Myrtle L. (Johnson) Tighe for 61 years.
Matty was born in Brockton a son of the late Matthew and Gladys (Woodland) Tighe and remained a lifelong resident of the city. Following his graduation from Brockton High School in 1942, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and was stationed in England during WWII. Matty retired as a Court Officer at Brockton Superior Court on Belmont Street after twenty years of service. He also served as a constable and deputy sheriff. Matty held a real estate license and had been a broker with Tighe Real Estate.
Matty had been a member of American Legion Post 35 and Pine Valley Golf Course both in Brockton. He played hockey and baseball in the old timers league and had also enjoyed fishing and jogging. He always looked forward to taking the next trip or cruise.
In addition to his wife he leaves his sister and brothers Bertha “Bunnie” Hill of South Easton, Robert Tighe of Bass River and Lloyd Tighe of South Easton. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Marilyn Gray and her husband Roy of West Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Friday 4-7 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann Church West Bridgewater at 9 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Donations in Matty’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.
