Ernest J. Fillion, Sr., 82

Ernest J. Fillion, Sr., 82, of Norton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday October 1, 2011 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Joan F. (Donahue) Fillion, to whom he was wed for the past 59 years.
Born in Quincy, MA on December 2, 1928, he was a dear son of the late Adela M. (Dupont) Westaway and her husband Harold “Joe” Westaway and the late Ernest J. Fillion.
Ernie grew up in the South End section of Boston and was educated in Boston Schools. He had made his home in Norton for the past 55 years.
A retired self-employed welder, Mr. Fillion was the proud owner of Ernie’s Portable Welding Co. in Norton, a business he operated for 40 years prior to retiring. As a teenager, he worked at the former Quincy Shipyard where he learned the welding profession.
Ernie enjoyed spending time with his adoring family, playing cards and the simple pleasure of watching television shows in the comfort of his home. He and his family enjoyed traveling by way of cruise ships and his 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated with family and friends on a cruise to Mexico.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his loving children; Hank A. Fillion and his wife Linda of Norton, Denise M. Mueller and her fiancé Gary Jackson of Mansfield, Debra A. Fillion and her companion Kenneth Hadley of Norton and the late Ernest J. “Zim” Fillion, Jr. who passed away recently on September 10th. The dear brother of Sherry Gouette and her husband Peter of Melbourne, FL, Mr. Fillion is also survived by his cherished grandchildren; Charles E. Mueller of South Attleboro, Michael E. Fillion of Attleboro and Kathleen Fillion and Kelly Ann Fillion both Norton, his great grandchildren Collin and Dillan Mueller of Norton, and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday October 6th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday October 5th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
