Obituary

Livia (Rodrigues) Duhaime Kowalski, 84, of Dartmouth, died Friday February 27, 2004 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph G. Kowaski and George Duhaime.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Francisco and Rose Rodrigues, she lived in Dartmouth for most of her life.

She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church, where she had been a member of the Resurrection Choir.

Mrs. Duhaime Kowalski was formerly employed by St. Luke's Hospital as the Director of the School of Nursing and later as the Director of Education until her retirement.

She was a graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy in Fairhaven and St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1944 and her Master of Science degree in Education in 1950, both from Boston University. She was a member of the American Nurses Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Pi Lambda Theta.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa C. Duhaime and her husband Richard Kowalski, whom she considered a son, of Dartmouth; and two grandchildren; Erik D. Kowalski and Lauren D. Kowalski.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday March 2, 2004 at 10 AM in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., North Dartmouth. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Livia Duhaime Kowalski Scholarship Fund, c/o Fleet Bank, 21A Faunce Corner Rd., Dartmouth, MA 02747.
