New Bedford – Joanne C. Assad of North Dartmouth died Thursday Sept. 29, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Bedford, Joanne was the widow of Wajeeh Assad and the daughter of the late Ernest and Alice (Rose) Rapoza. She was also predeceased by her brother Robert E. Rapoza.
Mrs. Assad was a graduate of New Bedford High School and had worked at Sears in North Dartmouth for many years before retiring.
Grandma was especially proud of her grandsons, and enjoyed visits from her son’s dog “Shadow”.
Hobbies included reading, oil painting, Sketching, puzzles and visiting the Senior Center when she was able.
She is survived by her daughter Paula Assad of New Bedford, Barbara Smith of Westport, son Steven Assad and his wife Lisa of North Dartmouth; two grandsons: Dr. Ryan Smith of Sharon, Vermont and Henry Assad of North Dartmouth, an Uncle and Aunt Richard and Delores Rose of South Dartmouth; cousins and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes there were no visiting hours and burial was private. Mrs. Assad’s arrangements were by the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St.
