LOWELL - Harold W. MacDonald Jr., age 50, a well known former resident of Tewksbury, diedFriday, Feb. 27, at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell after a brief illness. He was thebeloved husband of Teresa A. (Barros-DeLisle) MacDonald, with whom he would havecelebrated a 2nd wedding anniversary on May 5th.
He was born in Woburn, Dec. 22, 1953 the son of the late Harold W. and Mary E. (Canty)MacDonald. He was raised in Tewksbury and had lived in town until moving to Lowell severalyears ago. He was critically injured in an automobile accident at the age of six, and had remainedparalyzed in his legs throughout his life. In spite of being wheelchair bound, Harold neveraccepted his paralysis as a disability, and had remained an active contributor to the town and abusinessman in Tewksbury. He will be best remembered for his warmth, patience, positiveattitude, and acceptance to his physical limitations. He had also assumed the role of parent,mentor and friend to his special brother, Jimmy, upon the death of his mother several years ago.
He founded Mac’s Auto Body and Towing Company, in Tewksbury, which he successfullyoperated for more than a decade. For the last four years he worked at the Home Depot inTewksbury as a store ambassador and customer service representative.
He served on the Town of Tewksbury’s Patriotic Activities Committee, and HomecomingCommittee. He was also an organizer of the informal antique and hot rod auto shows whichremain a fixture in Tewksbury on Sunday afternoons during the warmer weather. He lovedantique automobiles and also built and drove a dragster in competition at New England Dragwayin N.H.
He was a lifelong communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury.
Besides his wife he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, MaryEllen and Gerald Nobrega Jr.of Tewksbury; a brother James “Jimbo” MacDonald of Lowell; two step-sons, Dennis and DavidDeLisle both of Lowell; a grandson, Jonathan; two nieces, Courtney and Kiana Nobrega; twonephews, David MacDonald and Justin Nobrega; two aunts, Kathleen Silkes of Malden and JeanCanty of Burlington; and numerous lifelong and very dear friends throughout the greater Lowellarea.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Mar. 2 in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Interment was in Tewksbury Cemetery.
