New Bedford - Manuel Pacheco Mello, 83, of New Bedford, died Friday, February 27, 2004 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Leonora S. (Oliveira) Mello of New Bedford, father of William J. Mello of New Bedford and brother of Lucinda ”Cindy” Morris of S. Dartmouth. He was the good friend of Doris Sylvia of New Bedford. He was also the brother of the late Mary Borges and Frank Mello.
Mrs. Mello was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of his life. He was the son of Joseph and Mary (Medeiros) Mello. Mr. Mello was a member of the Teamsters Local 59 and AARP. Mr. Mello, a U.S. Navy, WW II veteran, was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific, American Campaign, Victory and Good Conduct Medals and a Presidential Unit Citation.
Visiting hours for Mr. Mello will be Sunday, February 29, 2004 from 2 - 4 P.M. ONLY. Funeral will be Monday March 1, 2004 @ 10 A.M. with services beginning at 10:30 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Rural Cemetery, New Bedford,Mass.
