LOWELL - Robert M. "Bob" Qualtieri, age 72, a well known bartender at the U.S. Bunting Club in South Lowell, died peacefully on September 23, after a lengthy illness.
He was born January 1, 1939, in Cambridge, MA, the son of the late Anthony and Louise (Paynter) Qualtieri. Bob served in the U.S.Air Force during the Korean War.
He is survived by two daughters, Dawn Jack of FL, and Wendy Sandborn of ME; two grandchildren, Tasha Jack of FL, and Forest Sandborn of ME; a sister, Louise Cottreau and her husband Jerry, of Billerica, who were both constantly by his side during his illness; a niece and nephew, Sherry and Jay Cottreau also of Billerica.
Bob worked in his early years as a driver for Roadway Trucking for 25 years. He served as a bartender at the U.S. Bunting Club for the past 30 years, where he was a lifetime member and developed many lifelong friends. He was also employed by Homeyer Consulting Services, owned by his dear friend Bob Homeyer, where he worked as a Lab Manager from 1993 until 2005. Bob shared many happy times with friends, usually starting his day with breakfast at the Owl Diner in Lowell. He also enjoyed traveling to the area race tracks, Foxwoods Casino, annual trips to Atlantic City and Saratoga N.Y. with his buddies Dave, Mark, Jay, and Fishhead. He enjoyed trips to Florida to visit his daughter and her family, and planned to retire to Florida before he became ill.
